Black Artistry in Rock and Heavy Music Throughout the Years
Over the years black people have seemingly found themselves pushed out of a genre that they created and formed, either by choice or the choice of others. However, some African Americans still vocalize their presence despite being questioned and ostracized. From Chuck Berry to Cinnamonbabe, from Screamin' Jay Hawkins to Howard Jones, the influence of jazz and blues music still rings throughout modern rock music. From as early as the 1930's maybe even earlier, rock origins started with African Americans singing what is commonly referred to as blues music. Songs about loss, love, addiction, pain, and hope, the music went on to influence people even as far as overseas. From legendary bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Listed on this timeline are a couple of artists who are considered the godfathers and godmothers of the sound as well as those who continue its legacy:
